Statistics

There are six types of statistics that we keep:

·    Daily Gate Counts

·    Reference Statistics

·    Extended Hours Statistics

·    Copy Machine Statistics

·    Book Pick-up Statistics

    ·  Textbook Reshelving Statistics

Daily Gate Counts

The numbers from both the north and south gates are recorded at closing. There is a notebook at the Circ Desk called “Daily Patron Statistics Gate Count.” A sample of the recording sheet is on the following pages. Example:

Reference Statistics

A few times a semester we count how many reference questions we get at the Circ Desk. These include questions that should be answered by a Reference Librarian such as research or subject search questions. A sample of the recording sheet is on the following pages. Example:

Extended Hours Statistics

During finals we may open for extended hours. During these times, supervisors are to count how many patrons are in the library once per hour. A sample of the recording sheet is on the following pages. Example:

Copy Machine Statistics

This information is covered under the copy machine section in this manual.

Pick-up Statistics

Every night we must tally the number of books, magazines, and display magazines that we find on the book sweeps. We also record the number of audio/visual items that we shelve throughout the day on this form.  Keep the numbers on the Statistics form every night.  Example:

Textbook Reshelving Statistics

Now that the textbooks are a self-serve collection instead of being checked out at the desk, we have no way to track their circulation. Therefore, we keep track of how many textbooks we reshelve during the day. There is a log behind the front desk where we write the date, time, and how many books we shelved. It looks like this:
