Materials in Locked Cases (TR)

The locked cases are on the second floor, east side of the Library. They are designated by a “TR” on the spine label before the Dewey number, and the spine label is covered by a green colored transparent label to signal to shelvers where these items are shelved.

Under the barcode, a label is placed with the following wording (in red):

            2 Hour Loan

            Beware! High fines if overdue

            Return to Circulation Desk staff

Do not return in the book drop

To the right of the “2 Hour Loan” label, a label is placed with the wording: “Library Use Only.” Both of these labels are covered with protective tape.

Items in the Locked Cases include:

·      Loose-leaf or boxed items, e.g., portfolios

·      Rare items, e.g., autographed or out-of-print

·      Local out-of-print history (not PCC)

Nursing Historical Collection – Items not authored by PCC faculty members. Unlike other books in the locked cases, these spine labels are the original ones without “TR” as part of the spine label. For their location, the online catalog will say: Nursing Historical Collection Locked Case (Ask at Reference Desk)

These items circulate for a 2-hour loan with PCC ID card or PCC Library Public Patron Card. There is a key for the Locked Case at the Circulation Desk and at the Reference Desk. The Librarian on duty at the Reference Desk will retrieve the item from the locked cases. He or she will accompany the patron to the Circulation Desk with the item and see that it is checked out to the patron. The item may NOT be removed from the Library. The overdue fines are $1.00 per hour. When the item is returned, it will be placed on the A/V booktruck at the Circulation Desk. The items will be returned to the Locked Case directly and will NOT go to the sorting shelves.
