Inter Library Loan
If we do not own a particular book or article, patrons can request that the Library borrow the book or make a photocopy of the article from another library. Mane Hakopyan in Technical Services is the person who coordinates inter-library loans. Students can fill out the electronic ILL form on our website or they can go to the Reference Desk to complete the form in person.
ILL Policies:
1. The Library borrows materials or obtains photocopies of articles from other libraries for Faculty, Staff and currently registered students of PCC only. It is not available to people who have a public patron card as a result of living or working in the district, nor is it available to high school students.
2. The Library will not borrow items that we already own, whether they are checked in or out or if they are on reserve. In addition, the Library will not borrow textbooks/workbooks, items published within the last 12 months or audio-video materials including videos, DVDs, audiocassettes, CD-ROMs, computers disks, microform, and special items.
3. Only 3 ILL requests per person per week are allowed.
4. Patrons should allow at least 2-3 weeks to process and receive the item. There is no guarantee that the item will be located. Some libraries charge for ILL. Mane will notify the patron and discuss it with him/her if that is the case.
5. When the book(s) or article(s) arrive(s), Mane will call the patron and tell him/her to pick up the item(s) at the library Circulation Desk. She will put the item on the ILL shelf, which is located behind the main Circulation Desk (in the area overlooking the rotunda).
6. PLEASE NOTE: When you check out an ILL item, there will be a green ILL notice on the front of it (see below). This will specify that it is an inter-library loan. To check-out the item to the patron, you will scan their student ID card as usual. You will also scan the pink barcode that is clipped to the item (if it is a book, it will be the first thing you see when you open the book). You will have to get a supervisor to override the transaction. It is very important that you use the due date that Mane has written on the green ILL slip. Do NOT use the default Voyager due date.
If the item is an article, there will be no barcode. IF the green ILL date due slip says “No return. Copy of an article. FREE,” then just verify that the student’s ID matches the name on the slip and give him/her the article. There is nothing to check-out.
7. If a patron asks if he/she can renew an ILL item, refer them to Mane. We cannot renew the items ourselves. Mane must clear it with the library who has loaned the material to us. Give the student Mane’s phone number (626) 585-7835. If there are any questions, please direct them to her.
8. Replacement cost for the loss of an interlibrary loan item may be $100 or more.
This is what the ILL barcode will look like. You will scan this to check out the item to a patron.
REMEMBER TO MODIFY THE DUE DATE AND USE THE ONE MANE HAS WRITTEN ON THE GREEN ILL COVER.
