Closing Procedures

&   Between half an hour to one hour before closing, have student assistants pick up stray books from second and third floors and take them to the sorting shelves.

&   The announcement that the Library is closing will play automatically 15 minutes before we close, again ten minutes later, and finally when the library is closed.

&   Move cash tray into overnight location AFTER ALL PATRONS have left the building.

&   Turn off automatic doors and lock ALL doors when the library is closed.

&   Security sweep – The Reference Librarian on duty AND the Circulation staff must check second and third floors, including bathrooms, elevators, study rooms, and any corners in which students may have fallen asleep. (Roger’s staff in Periodicals does the first floor.)

&   Make sure Terrace and Orientation rooms are locked.

&   Turn off copiers in lobby area.

&   Turn off self-check machine.

&   Take gate counts of both north and south gates and write them in the log. (for statistics)

&   Shut down Circulation Desk computers – The computer closest to the video monitor should be turned off LAST. (This is the one that plays the closing announcements.)

&   Turn off the security video monitor at the front desk and the two monitors at the library entrances.

&   Be sure that all portable heaters and fans are turned off and unplugged.

&   All staff will gather in the lobby area and the Reference Librarian will dismiss everyone.

&   If there is no Reference Librarian on duty, you will need to turn off the patron stations (online catalogs). You can do this from the computer on the left at the Reference Desk. See the  page Turning Off Patron Stations (OPACs)  for further instructions and screenshot examples.

&   Lost and found items no longer need to be given to Campus Police at night. The cadets

during the day (Boy Watch) will pick up our lost and found. If they do not come to pick it

up, please notify Jared or Diana so that they can call.
