 24-Hour Holds

The Shatford Library will hold books for students for up to 24 hours under the following circumstances:

            1.  A student brings the books to the circulation desk but has forgotten their Lancer Card.

            2.  A reference librarian brings a book to the circulation desk and asks us to hold it for a

                        certain student or patron.

            3.  A student calls and says there is a book available in the catalog and they are coming to

pick it up that same day.   If it is not too busy, we will retrieve the book and hold

it for them.   If it is busy, students at the desk take priority and the person making

the request must be asked to call back at a later time.

Any item falling under these circumstances must have a slip placed in it with the patron’s full name and the date they have made the request.  The item should then be placed on the 24 Hour Hold shelf underneath the normal hold shelf.   Do not mix these items.  The 24 Hour Hold Items are not marked in the computer and must be cleared off the shelf each morning as their 24 hour time period expires.  If a book is placed on the 24 hours holds shelf on a Friday, then in can stay until Monday.

To place on hold: on a scratch piece of paper, write the name of the person the hold is for, the date the book is being placed on hold, and your initials.  Place the book (or books) on the 24 hour hold shelf.
